Department of Chemical & Process Engineering

University of Moratuwa

The department of Chemical and process engineering is always closely in contact with the industry. This close relationship with the industry is both beneficial to our students as well as to the industry as students are able to mould themselves to suit the industry by the time they graduate, and become a valuable addition to the workforce. The close relationship with the industry has helped our graduates to easily find jobs in the industry both in Sri Lanka as well as overseas. Furthermore, it has enabled our students to easily find placements for their industrial training in the 6 month internship period.

Industry Advisory Board

During their 6th semester, the undergraduates undergo industrial training to obtain the much needed hands on experience required for their future careers in the engineering profession. The Advisory Board consisting representatives from the industry itself, oversees this activity, which spreads across a span of 6 months. The board activities range from monitoring undergraduate performance during training, to providing recommendations on reforming the field curriculum.

Industrial Training

Each undergraduate in the faculty of engineering will have 6 months of in-plant training in their 3rd year of study. Each student will work these 6 months at an organisation which will help them get ready for the industry and it gives them a great opportunity to apply what they have learnt in their studies to real problems in the real world.
